Work for the community
DCP was the forerunner in the provision of post-disaster psychological services in Hong Kong. We adopted a model of disaster management involving a multi-level, multi-agency intervention. This was done by the provision of prompt, focused and short-term "psychological first-aid" intervention targeted at multiple levels (individual, group and community) covering the victims, friends, family members, and disaster workers. This involved operating a community-based hotline service, conducting clinical screening, making referral to the appropriate service providers, running psychoeducational debriefings for those who were affected by a disaster, and delivering coordinated public education through the mass media. DCP had responded to the following important critical incidents in HK and abroad,
- Fire at Ngau Tau Kok (2016)
- Occupy Central Protest (2014)
- Lamma Island Ferry Collision (2012)
- Manila Hostage Incident (2010)
- Sichuan Earthquake (2008)
- Tsunamis in South Asia (2004)
- Garley' Building Fire Incident (1996)
- 'Pat Sin Leng' Hill Fire Incident (1996)

- A group of DCP members is preparing for the publication of a Chinese book on mindfulness by Wan Li Book Co. scheduled in late 2017.
- DCP members have been writing columns in newspaper (Sky Post) since August 2011 to provide psycho-education to the public for enhancing their psychological health. From April 2016 to April 2017, 44 articles were published.
